Interior Painters in Ottawa
Walls, trim, ceilings and stairwells painted room by room, with low-VOC products so you can keep living in the house while we work.
Paint Experts provides professional interior painting throughout Ottawa, Ontario. Interior work is the bulk of what we do, and it is the part of the trade where preparation decides everything — an interior wall is viewed from three feet away in raking light from a window, so every skipped patch and every sanding pass you did not make is visible for the next decade.
Room-by-room sequencing in an occupied home
Most Ottawa interiors we paint are lived in. We sequence rooms so the house stays usable: bedrooms first while the main floor stays open, then living space, then hallways and stairwells last because they connect everything. Furniture is moved to the centre of the room and covered, floors are protected wall to wall, and the room is put back at the end of each day rather than left mid-job over a weekend.
Drywall prep, skim coating and crack repair
Ottawa's heating season runs roughly seven months and pulls indoor humidity low enough to open seams and nail pops that were invisible in August. We fill, tape where needed, skim the surrounding area so the repair does not read as a patch, then sand and spot-prime before any finish coat goes on. On older plaster we use a setting compound rather than lightweight filler, because plaster moves and lightweight filler cracks along the repair edge.
Trim, doors and crown moulding
Trim takes a different product and a different pace than walls. We fill nail holes and open joints, caulk the wall-to-trim line so there is a crisp edge to cut to, sand between coats, and use a waterborne enamel that levels out brush marks and cures hard enough to survive a vacuum cleaner. Doors are painted off the hinge where the schedule allows, which is the only way to get a run-free finish on a panel door.

Ceilings are cut and rolled in one continuous pass so there is no lap line where a section dried before the next one met it. Stairwells and two-storey foyers need staging rather than a ladder leaned against a wall — it is slower, and it is the difference between a straight cut line and a wavering one. Where a ceiling has water staining we spot-prime with a stain-blocking primer first, because latex alone will let a stain bleed back through within weeks.
Colour, sheen and low-VOC product choice
Ottawa's north light is cool, which pushes greys blue and makes a warm white read yellow on a south wall and grey on a north one. We test colours on the actual walls, in the actual light, at the actual time of day you use the room. For sheen: matte on ceilings, eggshell or matte on walls, satin in bathrooms and kitchens, semi-gloss on trim and doors. Low-VOC lines are standard on our interior work, not an upcharge.

Interior painting by Ottawa neighbourhood
The method above is the same everywhere in the city; the houses are not. A Nepean split-level, a Glebe century home and a five-year-old Barrhaven build arrive with completely different substrates, and the local pages below go into what that means for prep, sequencing and price where you live.

Common questions
How much does interior painting cost in Ottawa?
A single bedroom runs $400 to $700 for walls only, or $700 to $1,200 with trim and ceiling included. A whole three-bedroom interior is typically $4,500 to $8,500, and a four-bedroom is $7,000 to $13,000.
Can we stay in the house while you paint?
Almost always. We work room by room with low-VOC products and put each room back together at the end of the day, so the rest of the house stays normal.
Do you move the furniture?
Yes, we move and cover most furniture as part of the job. Pianos, safes, large aquariums and anything you would rather we did not touch stay with you.
How long does a whole interior take?
A single room is usually one day. A full three-bedroom interior runs four to seven working days depending on how much trim work and drywall repair the house needs.
